live out the Scriptures that you, the preacher, have exposited and unveiled for them. Preaching is not something we do simply because Christian tradition expects a word from the pastor or because it’s a routine part of our worship service. We preach because God has something to say to his people—a message that often counteracts culture and galvanizes loving obedience to his instructions. We preach to lead our congregations in living out kingdom values in a messy world chock-full of griefs and anxieties.
